French swimmer Léon Marchand
Four gold medals in six days,
each an Olympic swimming record!
Marchand has become the face of the Olympics
for the host country France,
and his image is now ubiquitous all over Paris.
After his fourth gold, he was personally greeted
by French President Macron.
BTW: he finished his Olympics today (Sunday)
with a bronze in the 4x100-meter men's relay.
Marchand created disruptions at other events.
Tennis, fencing and table tennis match audiences
were watching Marchand on their phones.
Those events were interrupted when the crowds
burst into 20-second bouts of cheers and chants
upon Marchand's fourth personal gold medal.
Tennis greats Nadal and Alcaraz were clueless
as to what was causing the commotion.
Medal tally through August 5:
USA 79 medals: 21 Gold, 30 Silver, 28 Bronze
China 53 medals: 21 Gold, 18 Silver, 14 Bronze
France 48 medals: 13 Gold, 16 Silver, 19 Bronze
