There is no Olympic flame.
The cauldron "lighting" ceremony was 100% deception.
To decrease the carbon footprint of the 2024 Olympics,
France decided to fashion an Olympic "flame"
that burns no fuel of any sort.
That "flame" is actually just sprays of water
pumped by 200 high-pressure misting nozzles
illuminated by 40 LED spotlights.
All hydro-electric, as it were.
Each day 10,000 ticketed visitors are allowed
close-up access to the earth-bound cauldron.
Note : All available tickets have already been snapped up.
the "balloon" rises 60 meters (approx. 200 ft.)
above the Tuileries gardens.
There is a reason for the hot-air balloon element.
In 1783 the Montgolfier brothers' invention
was demonstrated for the first time ever in a 10-minute
untethered flight at this very same spot.
Note: This water & lights "flame" will also be used
for the Paralympic Games Aug. 28 - Sep. 8.
Team USA:
594 rain-soaked athletes from 46 states
Note: The Olympic surfing competition is taking place
in Tahiti, where athletes are housed
on a cruise ship. Watch this space.
Tally after 6th day of competition (Thu., Aug. 1):
USA 41 medals: 9 Gold, 17 Silver, 15 Bronze
France 30 medals: 8 Gold, 11 Silver, 11 Bronze
China 27 medals: 13 Gold, 7 Silver, 7 Bronze
Vintage Olympian (1928 & 1932):
Buster Crabbe
1932 Swimming Gold Medal
400-meter Freestyle, Los Angeles Olympics
California native Crabbe (1907-1983)
went on to appear in more than 100 films and TV shows,
notably as Tarzan, Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon.
