Buttigieg suspends bid for White House:

After an astonishing political rise
within a very crowded field of Democrats
seeking the party's nomination for the 2020 election,
the first openly gay major presidential candidate
announced his exit from the field of contenders.
Former Mayor Pete returned to South Bend
to make Sunday evening's announcement.
Tonight he will be in Dallas to throw his support to Biden.

The manner in which Pete conducted his campaign
was a source of inspiration and pride for homosexuals
all across the nation.
To that end, we should be forever grateful.

Bob Kerrey, the former governor and senator from Nebraska,
writes a daily news summary for his teenaged son.
Today’s subject was Pete Buttigieg:

“This morning I regret not throwing my support to Pete
instead of Joe (Biden). We need a generational change,
and with (Pete) out of the race, that is not going to happen.
We need an outsider who knows that Washington must change,
but now that is also not going to happen.
We need a president who can speak the language of other nations,
but now that is not going to happen.
I do not think my support of Pete would have enabled him to win,
(but) it would have made me feel a little better
about his loss this morning.
Americans have lost the opportunity to turn the page
to a much different future.
We should feel remorse at losing that future.”

column in today’s New York Times.
