Munich, Germany
The largest folk festival in the world takes place on the Theresienwiese in Munich, with 6 million visitors expected to down millions of gallons of beer. The 190th Oktoberfest kicks off with a parade and the traditional barrel tapping by Munich's Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter Saturday in the Schottenhamel Festhalle (indoor capacity 6,000). A one liter mug of beer costs about 15 Euros ($17.50). Ouch.
I've never been, and doubt if I ever will get there. BUT! If I met someone who wants to go, and has been there and speaks the language, knows the customs, etc---I'd be the first one in line. I'm also wondering how gay friendly is it? The photos seem to hint that it is. ??? Is it really?
