Bike* brand has sold
over 350,000,000 #10 jockstraps
since 1874 (true):
*Tragic moments in jockstrap history:
In 2017, Russell Brands (of which Bike was a subsidiary)
announced that it was closing Bike. A public outcry followed.
Four years later (2021) the brand was restored
via online sales - bikeathletic.com
Bike is now owned by Fruit of the Loom,
a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.
The company website contains a message
from Talbot Logan, president of Bike Athletic:
..."There is no denying that jockstraps are inherently sexy. They show off the male form perfectly and make everything look firmer and more defined. The confidence that jockstraps give is well worth the reason for wearing one. So give one a try or buy one for a favorite guy in your life. I know he will like the experience. Some of my personal BIKE® favorites are the #10, because I love the authentic heritage behind that one, and the Classic, because sometimes the narrower waistband is better with what I am wearing. But I wear all of them and love having a choice."
(note: your blogger has touched up Mr. Logan's grammar)
Origin story:
The Bike Athletic Company invented the jockstrap in 1874
for use by bicyclists in Boston. It was originally called a "jockey strap",
because it was designed for bicycle-riding messengers
and deliverymen -- "bike jockeys".
It was not until 1891 that the term "jockstrap" was coined,
and much later it was reduced to simply "jock".
Sure. But back to the photos, fellas:
For those at home
eager to return to dorm living:
Thank You, for great update on BIKE!
ReplyDeleteEvery boy, from Junior High to High School and beyond, remembers buying a BIKE jockstrap for gym class, somewhat a requirement.
It's nice knowing, and seeing, that the Classic Jock, is available again.
