National Day of Silence
April 23, 2021
The National Day of Silence is an annual day of action to spread awareness about the effects of the bullying and harassment of students who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ). Students take a day-long vow of silence to symbolically represent the silencing of LGBTQ students.
Day of Silence has been held each year in April since 1996, when it was first organized by students at the University of Virginia (your blogger’s home state and residence). The event is sponsored by GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network).
