Spring break: Part II
Russian Photographer Andrei Vishnyakov
Young gay photographer Andrei Vishnyakov is based in St. Petersburg. Although he began working with 35mm film when he was a teenager, he was well into his twenties when the focus of his work became dominated by muscular male subjects (above), with generous sprinklings of bondage (below). These days he also photographs women (mostly female competitive bodybuilders) and does event, advertising and wedding work. He is thus able to support himself solely through photography and has earned an international reputation.
Your blogger first became aware of him when he was featured in The Advocate (advocate.com) on October 7, 2017 (100 photographs) and August 22, 2018 (62 additional photos, including male bondage, tattoos and leather). I learned that a photo I had used for one of my “coffee” posts was credited to Andrei (above).
What sets him apart, however, is that none of his subjects is a professional model. Social media is his primary source for new models, many of whom are well-known accomplished athletes. Andrei states that he also finds models at the weddings he is photographing and admits that his personal tastes tend toward rough guys off the streets.
