Military maneuvers:
Wonder Bar
March, 1934
This is a classic film our grandparents might have seen
on the big screen, just before
the Hays Production Code (1930)
began to be strictly enforced.
Censors tried, but Warner Brothers refused
to cut the scene.
The Production code delivered strict censorship
over films made in the U.S.
from July 1, 1934 to October 31, 1968.
Edel Rodriguez:
His first New Yorker cover
"After the Insurrection"
depicts silhouettes of
Washington DC landmarks
behind a flag flying at half mast.
Rodriguez was born in Cuba in 1971, but he became a U.S. citizen at age 19.
"To an immigrant like myself, America is a dream, a dream that one struggles and perseveres to attain. The actions of the president and his supporters shatter that dream."
