Rufus Gifford
Biden's Deputy Campaign Manager
45-year-old openly gay Rufus Gifford has been named deputy campaign manager for Joe Biden's presidential bid. The Washington Blade reports that Gifford has been charged with focusing on the intersections of finance, policy and political work (Gifford is the son of the chairman emeritus of Bank of America). As well, he will occasionally serve as a spokesperson for Biden. In 2012 Gifford served as national finance director for Obama's re-election campaign.
President Obama appointed Gifford Ambassador to Denmark in 2013. In a ceremony at Copenhagen City Hall, officiated by the Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, Gifford married Dr. Stephen DeVincent, a veterinarian, in 2015. They had been partners since before Gifford's ambassadorship began. Their wedding reception was held at the U.S. embassy, and their friends the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Denmark were among the guests.
