Broadcast Journalist Thomas Roberts Is
First Openly Gay Host of NBC Nightly News
When Thomas Roberts, 42, guest-hosted NBC Nightly News last Saturday and Sunday nights, he became the first openly-gay anchor to host an evening news broadcast on any of the major television networks (ABC, NBC and CBS). NBC Nightly News is the most-watched evening newscast in America.
For more than five years Roberts has served as a news anchor for cable TV channel MSNBC, where he currently hosts MSNBC Live on weekdays.
He has been in a relationship with Patrick D. Abner since 2000. On June 25, 2011, one day after same-sex marriage in New York was legalized, Roberts announced his engagement to Abner on his Twitter page. They were married on September 29, 2012.
