The Rooster of Notre-Dame de Paris

The central spire added during the 19th-century restoration was capped by a copper rooster, a symbol long associated with the city of Paris. It contained three holy relics -- a thorn from Christ's crown of thorns, a relic of St. Denis (first bishop of Paris, martyred by decapitation) and another of Ste. Geneviève (patron saint of Paris).

A worker with the Historic Monuments Restoration group found the copper sculpture while searching through the wreckage of the cathedral on Tuesday. Although missing a wing, experts declare that it is restorable. It has not been determined if the relics are intact.
