July 9

Olympic Madness

POST-OLYMPIC UPDATE:
Lochte won gold in London, and he now says he's moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in TV and movies. His first choice? He'd like to be a contestant on "Dancing with the Stars." Alrighty, then.

It’s been four years since we were last able to enjoy the eye candy that is the summer Olympics. For eight days, Saturday to Saturday beginning July 28, we’ll be gifted with the men’s swimming events. A major distraction will be 27-year-old Ryan Lochte (pronounced LOCK-tee), a welcome media replacement for the overexposed Mr. Phelps. But wait, it's not just about swimming. Ryan's extra-curricular activities include fashion design. He owns 130 pairs of shoes and wears a pink and lavender Speedo he designed himself. I'm not making this stuff up, guys. As a professional model, he has already been signed by the Ford agency. As well, Lochte appeared on the cover of last month’s issue of Vogue – only the fourth male in the magazine's history, but the first to do so shirtless. I’m glad you asked. The others were George Clooney, Richard Gere and LeBron James.

When he was named the male athlete of the year at the Golden Goggle Awards in NYC last November, his date was his mother. I’m just sayin’. That’s right, Lochte beat out Michael Phelps for Male Athlete of the Year, which is the Oscar for swimmers. He might look pretty in pink in his lycra Speedo, but he showed up to accept his Golden Goggle award wearing a Ralph Lauren cream colored tuxedo jacket, black velvet slippers (!), a bowtie and a polka dot silk scarf draped about his shoulders. While sporting two (!) bracelets (photographic evidence below).

Lochte has also been known to swim a lap or two. He is already in possession of six Olympic medals – three golds, one silver and two bronze. He’s a year older than Michael Phelps, and the rivalry between the two is keen. Given their ages, the upcoming Olympics competition will be the last when both men will be at the peak of their game. Looking ahead, Ryan has already stated that his post-swimming career will be in fashion design. His chiseled features were spotted the past few Septembers at NYC's Fashion Week. He was chosen to model the Ralph Lauren Olympics uniforms and is a spokesmodel for Speedo, Gatorade and Gillette. But the man’s not perfect. He waxes rhapsodic about the hot women he is photographed with, and he doesn’t have a tan line. Nonetheless, I thought you might appreciate a few photos or fifteen. Enjoy, gentlemen.

But I digress. Lost my head there for a moment. So let's get back on track. Here's the main course --  photos of male tan lines.
