Here in Washington, DC, the solstice arrives at 5:44 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2016, marking the official start of winter – the shortest day and longest night of the year. Here we’ll get just 9 hours and 26 minutes of daylight, an hour less than Miami. Sunset in DC will arrive at 4:49 p.m.

My advice -- wait until June.
