Equestrian Artist Ludvik Vacátko (1873-1956)

Ludvik Vacátko (b. 1873 in Simmering, Austria; d. 1956 in Kunvald, Czech Republic) was an Austrian born painter and professor of drawing. His parents had chosen a military career for him, but after graduating from military school, he taught drawing at the cadet school in Prague. He studied further at the Academy of Fine Arts and continued his studies in Paris, Vienna and Munich. After leaving the army, he devoted himself fully to art and was considered an outstanding expert in the field of animal anatomy. Most of his paintings depict male nudes with horses. In 1943 he moved to Kunvald, Czech Republic , where he lived until his death.
