November 8

A note to followers of this blog:
I never get tired of viewing photos of men's tan lines. However, it's a bit mind numbing to post nothing but erotic photos year after year. I have eclectic interests, so from time to time, I'm going to share things with you that are completely off-topic. They'll appear occasionally (when I feel like it), and always at the beginning of the  photo post; just skip to the photos if you're not interested. I have missed the once popular blog called Hans Is Great, which combined comments on diverse topics along with hundreds of photos of shirtless men. In a way, this occasional change of pace is a tribute to his blog. No worries, there will be no reduction in the quantity of photos included in each post.
Cheers.

Sean Scully: Maesta (1983)
Scully is an Irish-born painter (b. 1945) who produces mainly abstract oils. In the 1970s, after studies at Harvard, he settled in New York. Your blogger is a professional pianist who took a trip to Ireland this past summer (there is a room devoted entirely to Scully’s works at the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin), reacquainting me with the works of this artist. Although an abstract, Maesta brings to mind “piano keys” when I admire it. Scully titled this oil after the famous triptych by Duccio, a 13th-century painter from Sienna, Italy.

Maesta is on display in Washington, DC (where I am based), and can be viewed at the Smithsonian Reynolds Center for American Art & Portraiture, in the contemporary art section of the third floor.
Museum entrance on F street at 8th (Penn Quarter)
Metro stop: Gallery Place/China Town
Free admission. Daily 11:30a-7:00p. Closed Christmas Day.

Now, on to the men and boys.
